Description
Former US Army Captain and captain of our hearts Andrew Lee discusses his journey from Cerritos to Afghanistan, sharing his experience as an Asian American at West Point and his love for wadis.

Bio
Andrew Lee grew up in Cerritos, CA and attended the US Military Academy in West Point, New York. As a cadet, Andrew was part of the academy's water polo team, and eventually graduated with the rank of Lieutenant. After graduating, he was deployed to Afghanistan where he led a team of soldiers in infrastructure construction throughout the country, designing and managing the first web-based repair request system in Afghanistan and overseeing hundreds of construction and deconstruction projects throughout Afghanistan, eventually achieving the rank of Captain. After his military career, Andrew attended the UCLA Anderson School of Management, where he received his MBA degree, and has since worked as a senior product marketing manager at Microsoft.

Fact or Fiction: US Military Edition
  1. In the Army-Navy Game, Navy is currently ahead in the head-to-head record by 7 games, which is coincidentally, the same number of games both teams have tied since the game began in 1890 - FICTION (The record is 61-53-7 in favor of Navy)

  2. As of a 2013 DoD demographics report, Asians accounted for only 10% of enlisted men and women, and only 5% of officers - FICTION (3.8% of enlisted men and women, and 4.4% of officers are of Asian descent)

  3. The 442nd Infantry Regimental Combat Team, composed of almost entirely second-generation Americans of Japanese ancestry (Nisei), was the most decorated unit for its size and length of service in the entire history of the US Military - FACT (The regiment earned more than 9,000 Purple Hearts, 21 Medals of Honor, and 8 presidential citations)
